The game had a very big importance for third-ranked San Salvador as it allowed them to take a leadership position. San Salvador defeated 8th ranked Brujos at home 96-87. San Salvador outrebounded Brujos 52-40 including a 40-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. San Salvador shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Brujos' players. It was a great evening for power forward Brayan Garcia (194-1998) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 16 rebounds, 9 assists and 5 steals. Puerto Rican power forward Owens Perez (206-1992) helped adding 25 points and 10 rebounds. American guard Marcus Millien (188-2000, college: Carlow) responded with 32 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Brujos lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with seven games lost. Brujos will play next round against Salvadorenos trying to get back on the winning streak. San Salvador will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Metapan at home.
Very important is a road loss of second ranked A.Lobos (8-2) against fifth ranked Salvadorenos (6-4) on Thursday night. Visiting A.Lobos were defeated by Salvadorenos in San Salvador 73-61. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of A.Lobos. It was an exceptional evening for Colombian Michael Parra (201-1995) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 15 rebounds. Marcos Menjivar accounted for 21 points and 7 rebounds. American guard Jerome Savoy (185, college: Pfeiffer) came up with 25 points and 8 rebounds for A.Lobos in the defeat. Salvadorenos have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain fifth place with 6-4 record. A.Lobos at the other side dropped to the third position with two games lost. Salvadorenos will play against Brujos (#8) in Izalco in the next round. A.Lobos will play at home against Santa Tecla (#9) and hope to get back on the winning track.
